About Sozo Lifestyle Medicine
Sozo is a Greek word that means to protect, heal and make whole.
FAQ
Sozo provides membership-based medical care inspired by the Direct Primary Care (DPC) model. Under the DPC model, the patient pays a monthly membership fee and receives health care directly from the physician. DPC practices do not participate in any insurance plans, allowing physicians to focus on caring for the patient rather than excessive documentation demands and overhead costs associated with billing insurance companies. This means less stress, no co-pays, relaxed visits and direct access to your doctor.
(For Medicare members, standard Medicare cost-sharing applies to covered services.)

Lifestyle Medicine involves the use of evidence-based, lifestyle interventions as the primary means to prevent, treat and often reverse chronic diseases using:
-
A whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern
-
Regular physical activity
-
Restorative sleep
-
Stress management
-
Avoidance of risky substances
-
Positive social connections
Lifestyle Medicine physicians assist patients in achieving their health goals by giving them tools to be successful, while continuing to use conventional medications and procedures as second line agents for treatment. Lifestyle Medicine is best seen as the foundation for conventional medicine and focuses on patients taking responsibility for their health and integrating lifestyle changes as the first step in treating disease.
A conventional physician might ask, “What medications do we need to add to control this patient’s disease?” while a LM physician would ask, “What lifestyle changes can we make to reverse this disease so the patient no longer needs the medication?”

Medicare Patients Are Welcome at Sozo
Dr. Young is a Medicare-participating provider. For Medicare members, we bill Medicare directly for covered services such as annual wellness visits, preventive screenings, and medical care. If you have a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan, we bill it as secondary.
Your $95/month Sozo Medicare Membership covers the extras Medicare doesn't pay for:
- Secure texting and portal access with Dr. Young, 6 am–9 pm
- Same-day or next-day appointments
- Extended, unrushed visits
- Quarterly InBody body composition scans
- Lifestyle medicine coaching
- Morning group fitness and fitness assessments with a personal trainer
Your Medicare benefits stay the same, and you pay the membership only for the extra access and lifestyle support.
A Note from Dr. Young
I love the Direct Primary Care model. It lets me spend real time with my patients, with one simple membership and no insurance in the middle. I would gladly offer that same model to my Medicare patients if I could.
The reason I can't is that I still work shifts in the emergency department. Opting out of Medicare applies to a doctor everywhere she practices. If I opted out, I could no longer care for Medicare patients in the ER. So I stay enrolled in Medicare, and that means I'm required to bill Medicare for the covered care I provide here at Sozo too.
That's why Medicare care at Sozo looks a little different: Medicare is billed for your medical visits, and your membership covers the extras that make Sozo, Sozo. I wish the membership looked the same - clean and simple but alas, I am bound by regulations. It's one of the hardest parts of this practice for me. But I'm grateful I can still care for you, coach you, and walk alongside you on your health journey.
— Maryrose Young, DO
Medications, send-out labs, pathology and imaging are not included in the membership. These may be covered by insurance. For members who prefer to pay out of pocket, Sozo has discounted rates pre-negotiated in most cases. To get an idea based on other DPC negotiated prices:
-
Send out labs
-
Imaging x-ray
-
We can also use your insurance for labs and imaging. This may or may not be more cost effective.
Prices are for Sozo members, based on Labcorp's 2026 rates, and may change.
